“PIRATES 4″ PRODUCTION BUILDING MEGA SET ON FORMER “LOST” NORTH SHORE LOCATION

While My Ralfs were vacationing in Hawaii…..

A Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides construction team – mostly local workers – is halfway through 12 weeks of building a massive lagoon set on the banyan tree forest location that was used by ABC’s LOST in numerous scenes…The construction began in mid May and has to be finished by July 14 when Pirates begins filming on Oahu… Visitors hiking the mile-long path from the Turtle Bay Resort to scenic Kawela Bay have told Reel Hawaii that the “Mermaid Lagoon” set as of last week remains “plywood and 2x4s”…It’s the most extensive and elaborate Pirates set in the Hawaii filming…The lagoon – actually a tank – mostly is being built all above ground and will be filled with water…A Hawaiian blessing was done at the site before construction began, sources said…

Visitors hiking the mile-long path from the Turtle Bay Resort to scenic Kawela Bay have told Reel Hawaii that the “Mermaid Lagoon” set as of last week remains “plywood and 2x4s”…It’s the most extensive and elaborate Pirates set in the Hawaii filming…The lagoon – actually a tank – mostly is being built all above ground and will be filled with water…A Hawaiian blessing was done at the site before construction began, sources said…The set is 12-15 feet high and includes a series of pools, ponds and small cascading waterfalls. The set will measure about 40 by 60 feet…The set is being built in and around the banyan tree familiar to LOST fans…According to a Los Angeles source familiar with the design, the set will look like it belongs in that location. The set may be used for the “hero shot” of the film where a deceased Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) meets the Queen of the Mermaids (Gemma Ward) who lives here. This mermaid queen either has or is guarding a Fountain of Youth (?) elixir that can give him his life back…There also is a romantic aspect since the mermaid queen has fallen in love with Sparrow, but Sparrow is or thinks he’s in love with Barbossa’s (Geoffrey Rush) daughter played by Penelope Cruz…T0 build the set, the production is using 20 “artisans’ 40 hours a week for 12 weeks or at $50 an hour about $480,000…

This is the plot according to Disney: “In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past…

The scene is the second one to be filmed on Oahu and at this point scheduled to shoot July 19 for five days, a Kauai source said…At this point the Los Angeles crew – as many as 300 – will be staying at the Marriott Waikiki hotel and shuttled to Pirates three primary Oahu locations: Barber’s Point, Police Beach in Haleiwa, and the Mermaid Lagoon set on Turtle Bay Resort property…The film’s stars and executives likely will stay at the resort…According to former LOST crew and executivcs, the Turtle Bay Resort charges productions $2,500 a day for shooting on its property and less for preproduction…Turtle Bay officials did not return several messages for information…

    “It all ends here.”
    —Official tagline.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will be the first installment of a two part film based on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling.
“Years ago, we briefly — and seriously — considered doing Goblet of Fire as two films. So this concept is not altogether new. As for Deathly Hallows, I intuited — almost from the first moments I began reading it and certainly once I’d finished — that to realize the story in a single film was going to be a tall order. Others in ‘the group’ felt similarly. So the idea of two films began to get kicked around as early as late summer of 2007. We didn’t take it lightly. But ultimately everyone felt that despite the challenges it would present, it was the most sound creative decision.
I’m sure some will think we’re crazy. My wife looked at me cross-eyed when I first mentioned it. But I’m really excited about it because it should allow us to stretch a bit with the characters and give them the proper send-off. The story is highly emotional and those moments deserve time to breathe. And, personally, I feel we owe it to Jo — in order to preserve the integrity of the work — and the fans — for their loyalty all these years — to give them the best and most complete experience possible.”[1]
David Yates, who directed the preceding two films, is directing both parts, with Steve Kloves returning to script[1]. The first part is currently scheduled for release in November 2010, with the second following in July 2011.[2] Production of the two films occurred concurrently,[3] and treated as if it were one film.[4] The idea to split the films had been around since the middle of 2007,[1] but only really came into serious consideration after producer David Heyman was able to talk to writer Steve Kloves when the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike ended and Heyman had Rowling’s approval.[4]
On March 12, 2008, Warner Bros. additionally confirmed that the movie would be split into two, to do justice to the book.[5]David Yates, director of Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince will return to direct and Steve Kloves is going to write the screenplay. According to Warner Bros. executive Alan F. Horn it will allow “an extra hour and a half to celebrate what this franchise has been and do justice to all the words and ideas in the amazing story.”[3] Heyman described the workings behind the split: “Deathly Hallows is so rich, the story so dense and there is so much that is resolved that, after discussing it with Rowling, we came to the conclusion that two parts were needed.”[3] Due to the WGA strike, Kloves was not able to start work on the script until it ended.[6]
Before David Yates was officially chosen to direct the film, others had expressed an interest in the job. Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, had said that he would be “tempted” to return to direct.[7]Guillermo del Toro, who passed on Prisoner of Azkaban, had expressed interest in directing Deathly Hallows,[8] but an increased workload ruled him out of the project.[9]
Heyman noted that the films will be a closer recreation of the books than the previous films because of the length a two-part adaptation entails.[10]Daniel Radcliffe said: “This is a road movie, particularly in Part One of the film. People have been so used to seeing Harry Potter at Hogwarts and we’re just not there for the first part of the film. That seems to have really freshened things up, and hopefully will get people seeing the films with fresh eyes again, because it’s just a totally different look when you’re not just sat in the same room the whole time.”[10]
Although Yates had retained composer Nicholas Hooper for Half-Blood Prince, John Williams (who composed the scores to the first three films) had expressed interest in returning to score the film – however he did not state which part he would be contributing to. In January 2010 Alexandre Desplat, a French composer, was confirmed to produce the score for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. [11]
Yates and Heyman have noted that some of the events of this film had an effect on the way the sixth film was written.[12]
The first part of Deathly Hallows will end as the trio are captured by the Snatchers.[13]
In the wake of the success of the 3-D film Avatar in late 2009, Warner Bros. announced that the Deathly Hallows films will be converted to 3-D for showing in 3-D.[14] A standard 2-D version of the films will also be circulated, as stated in the most recent trailer.

    ‘Darth Vader’ robs bank
SETAUKET, N.Y., July 23 (UPI) — Police in New York state said the man who robbed a Chase bank branch was armed with a pistol and dressed as “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader.

Suffolk County police Detective Sgt. William Lamb said the robber walked into the Setauket branch Thursday dressed in Darth Vader’s signature mask and cape, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

Lamb said the robber got into a “shoving match” with a customer who initially thought the costumed man was joking.

“The customer thought it might have been a joke, and not a serious attempt at a robbery,” Lamb said.

Police said the intruder pulled out a gun and ordered the man to the floor.

Lamb said investigators were trying to determine how much money the holdup man was able to shove into a bag before fleeing.
